Older Growing

In an era in which "eighty is the new sixty," more people are seeking ways of growth beyond their historical experience in their family and work environments. We offer a map and teachings that cultivate the strengths of body, mind and spirit that lie latent in the so-called older person. Clients interested in this service may write Richard Grossman and have an initial discussion with him regarding problems and goals. Depending on the unique individual needs of the client, Richard will either make specific referrals for further work, or set up additional appointments with the appropriate Institute faculty member. Not only the network of faculty but other resources in such fields as Yogic therapy, nutritional counseling, art and music therapies, herbalogy, etc may be recommended and facilitated.

Living with Chronic Illness

With an emphasis on the discovery of inner capacities, Richard Grossman teaches new ways to manage pain, endure medical treatments, deal with fear and uncertainties and the attendant family issues that arise during chronic illness.

Richard Grossman was the Director of the Center for Health in Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center for 20 years, where he was on the faculty of the Residency Program in Social Medicine and The Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He was the recipient of both the Director’s and the President’s Awards for "extraordinary excellence in patient care." He is in the private practice of health counseling and psychotherapy in Lakeville, Connecticut, and serves as a facilitator of retreats for seriously ill men and women as part of the Cancer Help Program of The Smith Farm Center for the Healing Arts. He is also consultant to the Department of Family Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. He is the author of six books.
